We offer training along two main methodological pathways:
1. Hypothesis-driven science Most of our research is hypothesis-driven. Master students, post-master trainees and PhD students can participate to our projects by carrying out the entire pathway from erecting an a priori hypothesis to test it empirically on a small number of samples or a dataset. Prerequisites: analytical and scripting skills (preferably R environment) commensurate to academic level.
2. Natural history We value natural history observation, the detection of patterns and the understanding of novelty. Students of all levels will participate to our fieldwork or to lab work on already collected samples, they will learn how to identify organisms and enjoy the diversity of life. Prerequisites: passion for a particular marine taxon or component.
National and international students alike are welcome to join us. The basic prerequisite is good command of English and genuine motivation to pursue scientific research. Check our ongoing projects. Italian students can easily come to Stazione Zoologica for internships in the context of ongoing and new agreements between institutions. BSc, MSc and PhD students based in the European Union may take advantage of the Erasmus internship and traineeship programme. European Union and International young researchers (PhD or young post-doc level) can apply for the competitive fellowships of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI).
